Special edition humidors are limited production, hard-to-find,
expensive boxes that are much sought after by the serious collector.
Sometimes they are created to commemorate an anniversary of a cigar
manufacturer or to mark a new line of cigars. For example, Doc
commissioned Eddie DeJong of Vanderburgh Humidors to make the beautiful
Stogie Fresh Limited Edition (LE-165) humidor seen at right. This
humidor was handmade to Doc's exact specifications and is a beautiful
work of art, as well as an optimally functioning humidor. Other
examples are seen below.

La Gloria Cubana:
Serie R Limitada 2004 |

In 2003 Ernesto
Perez-Carrillo, president of El Credito Cigars, created
an exclusive line of cigars called the La Gloria Cubana Serie
R Limitada. Packaged in a specially made humidor, crafted
in Italy using mahogany and sporting a glass lid, the cigars
measured 6 1/2 inches by 64 ring gauge.
The 2004
humidor
(above and at left) is a beautiful work of
art.
Only
1000 of these boxes were made, with 500 containing natural
wrapper stogies and the other 500 containing maduros.

The humidor is not just another pretty face. The glasstop
humidor has two drawers that reveal 20 gorgeous 7' inch x 60
Ring Gauge Maduro figurados. These are truly smooth smokes.
Carillo intends to produce a new line of cigars yearly,
like the Serie R Limitadas, which will likely continue to
be produced in different sizes and packaged
in a different humidor.

Padrón 40th Anniversary

The initial release of the Padrón
40 year anniversary cigars came with 400 special edition
humidors. Each box
is uniquely painted with a scene from tobacco fields,
etc. You will note the hand painting of the front outside
of
the box. Also notable is the hand carved lid. You can
see from the photo that the carving is fairly detailed.

  The
hand-carved box contains four trays of 10 box-pressed torpedos
at 6 1/2 inches x 54 ring gauge. The cigars were awarded
the Best Cigar of the Year honor from Cigar Aficionado magazine.
The nicely crafted smokes
were rated a 93 on the 100-point scale. The inside of the
box displays the beautiful hand-painted wooden tile on the
inner lid and the removable trays are
numbered.
